The sea has always been the quiet rhythm beneath my life - sometimes loud and wild, sometimes still and sure.  Growing up on Cornwall’s beautiful coast, even when my work or studies took me inland, I’ve never been far from the pull of the water.

Early on, not having a set pathway or vocation in my life, meant experimenting and pursuing things I didn't know if I truly wanted.  However, I could always rely on the grounding feeling of coming back to life by the water, whether I was fore-deck on my Dad's J24, looking for shells at Portwrinkle or working at Maenporth Beach Cafe.  After finishing a degree in Textiles Design at Falmouth University, and spending a time in the ebb and flow of hospitality work, I found myself longing for something more tangible - a craft I could shape with my hands.  In March 2022, I became a cover maker in Falmouth.  It felt like the perfect clash of passions: I love the sea, and I love sewing.  Somehow, between salt air and sail cloth, a trade was born.

Since then, I’ve been learning the tides of the marine industry - the challenges, and nuances, and how I might find my own place within it.  Every day by the water feels like a small reminder of how lucky I am to live and work beside it.  The sea keeps me grounded, inspired, and endlessly curious - a constant muse in all the chapters of my life.

My most recent turned page is one of the most precious yet - I’m welcoming new life.  I’m pregnant with our first baby, and I feel both excited and scared in the very best way.  Our child will be raised with the same deep appreciation and respect for the sea that has shaped so much of my own life - to teach them about strength and patience, and the wonder that comes from living close to nature.

During my maternity leave, my cover-making work will continue slowly.  I’ll be taking on manageable cover work, creating bags from second-hand sails and drawing simple line illustrations of boats - small, meaningful pieces that let me stay connected to the craft and community I love.  It feels like the perfect way to keep my creativity flowing, to stay rooted in purpose, and to show my baby - even before they arrive - what it means to follow your passions with both drive and humility.
